Sports diplomacy and Italian roots with Milan in Perth

(ANSA) – ROMA, 05 AGO – Sports diplomacy and Italian roots take center stage in Perth with the Italian Heritage Lunch, organized by the Consulate of Italy in collaboration with Tourism Western Australia on the occasion of the friendly match between AC Milan and Perth Glory. The event, part of “Italian Way – Perth Capital of Italian Creativity in the World 2025,” brought together at the Italian WA Club, a historic institution of the Italian community in Western Australia, more than 250 guests, including Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti, AC Milan Ceo Giorgio Furlani, Rossoneri legends Serginho and Kakha Kaladze, Perth Glory management and Hon. Nicola Carè, in a celebration of Italian excellence and heritage in Australia’s largest and richest state. A statement reported.
“Generations of emigrants have brought a heritage of civilization and creativity that has taken deep root and continues to contribute to the region’s extraordinary development,” said Consul of Italy in Perth, Sergio Federico Nicolaci. Carè pointed out that the warm welcome given to Milan by the Italian-descendant community in Western Australia is “an expression of an extraordinary bond with their roots and a lively pride in their motherland.” During the event, which also featured a session dedicated to the promotion of Italian excellence, attended by soccer legends, members of the business community and representatives of the Italian-Australian associative world, a preview of the trailer for the documentary “Italian Way – Stories and Future of Italians in Western Australia,” produced by the Consulate as part of the Italian Way festival, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, was presented. The initiative, the note concludes, confirms the role of culture and sports as tools of diplomacy and enhancement of Italian excellence in the world, and is part of a strengthening of cooperation between Italy and Western Australia.
