Our hero, Krystina, and her team at Under the Sun Shelter continue to save the lives of neglected, abandoned, and homeless animals across Ukraine. Their hearts broke when they arrived at a dilapidated property and saw the horrible condition of the dogs chained outside.
A dog (we are calling Asher) is so skinny that every bone in his body is visible. He was found curled in a ball trying to stay warm, When rescuers approached, he wagged his frail tail. He was preparing to perish from the cold and hunger, but help had finally arrived.
He was too weak to walk, so rescuers carried him to safety.
Two other emaciated dogs (we named Amos and Arlo) were removed from heavy chains and brought back to the shelter to start their long journey to recovery.
They were afraid of rescuers at first, but so relieved with their collars and chains were removed.
Sadly, rescuers found another dog who had already died from starvation.
Asher, Amos, and Arlo have been starved for so long that food will need to be slowly reintroduced to their bodies. They will need ongoing care and lots of nutritious food to survive.
