Successful Pump Foil Kickoff at Lake Traunsee

At the tenth edition of Lakeventure, plenty of foil action took place at the Rindbach area in Ebensee. For the first time ever, the world’s best pump foilers came to Austria as part of the Surf Foil World Tour. The opening on Saturday featured bright sunshine and perfect conditions. In the women’s competition, the showdown is set for Sunday, with 17-year-old Vienna native Viola Lippitsch aiming to claim the title on Lake Traunsee.

In pump foil, riders rely solely on muscle power: athletes keep their hydrofoils gliding above the water through rapid leg movements — without wind and without waves. This makes the discipline one of the toughest tests of endurance, speed, and technique. The Surf Foil World Tour is staging a pump foil event in Austria for the very first time this weekend.

Showdown in the Women’s Competition

The Upper Austria SFT Pump Foil World Cup Traunsee is even the final stop of this year’s tour. Viola Lippitsch currently leads the women’s overall ranking. However, the 17-year-old from Vienna faced some difficulties with her starts in the opening roundSwitzerland’s Sarah Spalinger – currently ranked third – won the first final on Saturday and was able to close the gap in the standings. Another Swiss rider, Katrin Kolo, will join the competition on Sunday, adding more rivalry to the big title showdown. “In the first session things didn’t go as I hoped, but in the afternoon it was already much better. I’m looking forward to tomorrow and will give it everything to win the title,” said Lippitsch.
In the men’s field, a total of 22 athletes lined up at the start. The competition began with time trials, with the twelve fastest riders — including seven Austrians — qualifying for the elimination series in the Pro Division. In the end, the favorites prevailed. Ahead of the final day, the battle for second place remains especially close. Switzerland’s Robert Von Roll defended his runner-up spot with a strong performance, but Vorarlberg’s Jurij Scheibler is still hot on his heels.
