(ANSA) – ROME, JAN 20 – Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Monday said he hoped the US would promote peace while noting that both Donald Trump and Joe Biden had been instrumental in the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
“I hope the US will be a protagonist and promoter of peace but it looks to me like both Donald Trump and Joe Biden have exercised a lot of pressure to accelerate the signature of an agreement with Hamas for a ceasefire”, he said.
Tajani added that “the issue of immigration concerns the United States but it is another problem”, addressing via video link from Jerusalem an event organized by the European Parliament in Italy called “Agenda for Peace 2025, the role of Europe and the challenges of the Jubilee of hope”.
Tajani was replying to a question on what to expect from Trump while the inauguration ceremony was underway in Washington DC.
