(ANSA) – ROME, MAR 3 – Pope Francis said technocracy will not save the world and criticised neo-liberal deregulation in a message to the participants at the General Assembly of the Pontifical Academy for Life, dated February 26 signed from Rome’s Gemelli hospital.
“The sciences are constantly offering us new knowledge,” the message read. “Consider what they tell us about the structure of matter and the evolution of living beings: a much more dynamic vision of nature emerges than what was thought in Newton’s time.
“Our way of understanding ‘continuous creation’ needs to be reworked, knowing that it will not be technocracy that saves us,” Francis continued, referring to his Laudato si encyclical.
“To go along with utilitarian, neo-liberal planetary deregulation means imposing the law of the strongest as the only rule; and it is a law that dehumanises”.
