(ANSA) – ROME, JAN 20 – Jannik Sinner and the pair formed by Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini have been named International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Champions 2024, respectively in the men’s singles and women’s doubles categories, the ITF said Monday.
The prestigious recognition is awarded on the basis of the results achieved during the season, taking into consideration, in particular, the four Grand Slam tournaments, the Davis Cup, the Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge, the Olympics and the Paralympics.
For Sinner, world number 1 for 33 weeks – winner last year of the Australian Open, US Open, ATP Finals and Davis Cup – it is the first time, as well as the first time ever for an Italian at singles level.
A gold medal at the Paris Olympics and success in the Billie Jean Cup allowed Errani and Paolini to win the prestigious award for the first time as a couple. For Errani it is the fourth time in her career; the previous three times it was alongside Roberta Vinci. (ANSA).
