Tennis: Sinner says happy to be well again after easy win

(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 27 – Jannik Sinner said he was happy to be well again following his withdrawal with a virus in the final of the Cincinnati Open against great rival Carlos Alcaraz as he began his defence of his US Open title with an easy three-set win over Czech Vit Kopriva.
“It was great to be back here for the last slam of the year, in this wonderful atmosphere. I’m happy to be healthy again, I did everything I could to be in top form, now we’ll see what happens,” Sinner said.
“I have wonderful memories of last year. Today I started off on a high note, and I’m happy to compete with the best in the world,” he concluded immediately after the match at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Sinner made the most comfortable of starts to the title defence as the world number one defeated Kopriva (world number 89) 6-1, 6-1, 6-2 in 1 hour and 38 minutes of play.
Sinner, 24, has won two of the three slams played so far, in Australia and Wimbledon, and lost the third, the French Open, after holding three championship points against Alcaraz in a five-set epic. (ANSA).
