Gone are the endless lists of additives and exotic ingredients which you have to Google; increasingly, it’s all about stripping things back. <h2 id="whats-in-the-new-tesco-range-57625a96">What’s in the new Tesco range?</h2><p>This new collection focuses on familiar family favourites, including burgers, sausages, chipolatas and meatballs. The products use 100% British beef or pork, with the range designed to make everyday meals feel a little simpler without compromising on flavour.</p><p>The burgers and meatballs are a simple combination of beef with sea salt and black pepper, whilst the sausages additionally contain sage, water and natural pork or sheep casing. <p>The launch comes as many shoppers are paying closer attention to how food is made. <a href="/health/nutrition/what-are-ultra-processed-foods">Ultra-processed foods</a> have become a major talking point, with concerns around additives, long ingredients lists and the way these products fit into our diets.</p><p>That doesn’t mean every processed food is automatically unhealthy, and a short ingredients list isn’t a magic health guarantee. However, I do understand the appeal of being able to pick up a packet of sausages or burgers and quickly see what’s inside, as well as the consolation that there are no hidden pernicious ingredients, E-numbers or preservatives.</p><p>Tesco has also been tightening its wider own-brand approach to additives, restricting or removing more than 100 ingredients across its ranges. The Just X Ingredients products won’t replace fresh vegetables, pulses or home cooking, but they could make a useful starting point for a midweek meal as well as appealing to those who would otherwise be reducing their meat intake.</p><p>Fewer ingredients is certainly a welcome direction, provided the food tastes good, too.
