The Friday Bulletin. January 24, 2025

Timely nuggets of information and ideas we want to share with you.

January 29th is National Puzzle Day.  Here are some puzzle companies we recommend:

www.riflepaperco.com – A wonderful paper goods company that grew into a wonderful home goods and gifts company.

www.birdiepuzzles.com – woman-owned small business that has quirky-cool designs.

Pintoo Puzzle vase is a 3D puzzle that doubles as a functional bud vase that has a water cup hidden inside.   There are many vases to choose from.  $29.99.

Piecework Puzzles – another women-owned company.  They aim to design puzzles you can ‘lose yourself in’.

Gas v. electric stoves

I’ve always preferred gas stoves because I feel the cook has more control over the cooking heat from the burners with gas.  I’m learning, however, that gas stoves emit more pollutants than electric stoves. The best choice is neither gas nor electric, but induction.  When a gas stove is replaced by an induction stove, the amount of nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) in the kitchen can drop by 56%.  NO₂ is linked to respiratory diseases, hospital visits, and even deaths.  For more information about NO₂ click here.

Here’s a fun fact – If you happen to be a hoarder, go find your old 1975 calendar, or if that’s too early for you, your 2014 calendar, and you’ll notice that it’s the identical calendar to 2025.

Google Maps has an easy location sharing setting.  If you need to share your location with someone else, but only for a specific period of time – say you’re meeting someone, and you’re coming from separate locations, sharing your location with that person gives them an easy way to check your progress.  Here are the steps:

  • Open up your Google Maps on your phone.
  • Tap the blue dot which is your current location.
  • Select “share your location” and set an end time for the location sharing or keep it active until you turn it off.
  • Then select the contact or contacts you want to share it with.

You can also share your location when in the middle of a Google Maps navigation by swiping up from the white bar at the bottom of the screen and then select “Share trip in progress” and choose who to share it with.  In both scenarios people who open the link will see an icon showing your current position and that moves as you move.
