Last winter Slate magazine released its 25 Most Important American Recipes of the Past 100 Years. The authors reached out to chefs, recipe writers, historians and ‘food luminaries’ to ask for nominations of their most important American recipes of the past 100 years. Each recipe had to represent a new trend in some aspect of home cooking for many Americans. I am impressed by the amount of research that went into this project. Each recipe has the year the recipe debuted, its story – regional, family or both, the cultural values, new technology if applicable, any new culinary skill, taste, and more. Many people have cooked all 25 recipes and written about that experience. If you are a ‘foodie’ this will be a lovely deep dive for you.

Somehow, I came across tips for writing emails. Here are my favorites:
- The more ideas you try to communicate in a single email, the more likely one will be overlooked.
- You don’t need to sign your name at the end of your email—the recipient knows who it’s from.
- The more your email sounds like you speak, the more effective it will be.
- If you’re not working on email now, your inbox shouldn’t be open now.
- The most important sentence in any email is the first one.
- No one ever says, “I wish the paragraphs in that email were longer.”
- Every email should tell the recipient what you want them to do after they read it.
