Timely nuggets of information and ideas we want to share with you.

I have just been in two countries where I needed a travel adapter with multiple wall and internet plug types.  This adapter went with me on the trip and was perfect for my needs. It has four adapters that fit plugs for over 200 countries.  It also has 2 USB-A and 3 USB-C ports.  It comes in four colors and is $23.99.

Pro tip: I like a color other than white or black because it stands out in a hotel room and I am less likely to leave it behind.  If you choose white – put a bright colored tape on it.

Addie P., a new subscriber to ASE, told me about a friend who has a blog called Miami Curated.  Should anything bring you to South Florida, this is a website you should check out.  Miami Curated will fill you in on Miami culture and entertainment, with many great additional tips on where to stay, where to get beauty treatments, and where to shop. In addition, you will get curated advice on what is happening in nearby South Florida areas.

I’m in the market for a new sauté pan because the Teflon on my old one began to flake off.  That alarmed me so much that I decided to look into non-Teflon sauté pans.  Ceramic pans would be great because they are also non-stick, but many reviews say that they cease being non-stick quickly.  I went to The New York TimesWirecutter website to get their recommendation for the best 10” non-nonstick sauté pan, and it did not let me down.  Their pick is the OXO Obsidian Carbon Steel 10” pan.  Don’t be alarmed that it says, “nonstick with use”.  It develops a patina with use that seems to prevent food from sticking, but no plastic coating.  Wirecutter likes it because it is lightweight, balanced, will work with induction units, and can go in the oven or under the broiler.  Its handle is removable to help with storage.  49.99.

Digestion is important to every part of our body including our brains.  Our gut microbiome (the microorganisms living in our guts) connect everywhere in our bodies so the state of our digestion system is important.  Poor gut health can cause symptoms that wouldn’t automatically be connected to our guts.   Here are 7 signs that you might need a gut check from Real Simple magazine.

  • You’re more irritable than usual.
  • You feel exhausted for no reason.
  • You have headaches.
  • You have constipation or are bloated.
  • You have bad breath.
  • You have new food sensitivities.
  • Your skin is acting up.

If any of these symptoms apply to you, here are some gut improvements to try.

  • Eat more gut-friendly foods like yogurt and fermented foods.
  • Eat more fiber from plants like legumes, whole grains, vegetables and fruits.
  • Eat less processed, high sugar and greasy foods.
  • Drink lots of fluids, stay active, get enough sleep, and try to reduce your stress.
