Timely nuggets of information and ideas we want to share with you.

LEGO has something for everyone, and the creative toys are having a resurgence.  In the past 6 months, revenue grew 12%, consumer sales grew 13%, and LEGO launched 314 new sets.

Start young children out on the basic sets where they can create their own designs, and the sets will keep pace as they grow up.  There are sets for tweens, teens, college age and adults.

The sets are popular for all ages because they are a distraction from screens and devices for younger kids, and for older ones and adults, building a set is calming and absorbing.  In case you’ve always wondered, LEGO means ‘play well’ in Danish.

If you are already a LEGO fan, the company is having a competition for consumers.  You can submit your design ideas and one might be chosen for their next new set!

Over 50% of American households own a garbage disposal. Many believe it means that any food can be put down it when in fact some items can actually break the disposal.

What CAN Go Down:

Leftovers, fruit peels, corn cobs, vegetable skins if they aren’t too stringy, cooked meats, small fish bones, ice cubes.

What CANNOT go down:

Large bones, clam and oyster shells, oils, fats, cooking grease, or anything that could congeal and possibly clog the pipes. Dairy products, ice cream, peanut butter, pasta and rice, artichokes, banana peels, string beans and anything that can wrap around the blades and clog.  Eggshells and coffee grounds do not decompose quickly and can also clog the drain.

To CLEAN your disposal:

The simplest way to clean the disposal is to pack 2 cups of ice cubes, 1 tablespoon of baking soda, and 1 lemon slice into the disposal and run cold water while grinding until the mixture is gone.

Another way is to cut a lemon into wedges and feed each wedge into the disposal while running cold water until the grinding stops.  This has the advantage of leaving the disposal smelling fresh and lemony.

The OneZoom tree of life explorer shows how all life on Earth is related, from single-celled organisms to humans, in amazing detail.   It is a nonprofit organization in the U.K. whose aim is to provide easy access to scientific knowledge about biodiversity, conservation, and evolution.
