‘There’s still tomorrow’ at the Italian Embassy in Moscow

(ANSA) – MOSCA, 16 GIU – A screening of ‘C’è ancora domani’ dedicated to the community of compatriots in Moscow and fans of Italian language and culture closed the Republic Day celebrations in Russia. Following the events of 3 June in Moscow (the traditional meeting with the Italian community in the country, representatives of the Russian diplomatic corps and civil society at Villa Berg) and 5 June in St. Petersburg, the screening of Paola Cortellesi’s film, preceded by a video message of greetings to all the guests, closed the celebrations of the 79th anniversary of the Italian Republic in the Russian Federation.
In line with the idea of keeping Villa Berg, the historic Italian diplomatic seat in Moscow, a constant reference point for the local Italian-speaking community and Italian culture enthusiasts, starting with the younger Russian generations who are looking at our country with interest, the embassy once again opened its doors to more than 300 guests, transforming itself into a multiplex cinema for the first time. It was a moment of sharing dedicated to the founding values of the Italian Republic. Long applauded, the chosen film, the embassy emphasised in a note, proved to be a captivating and immediate vehicle for the universal values underpinning our Republic: dignity, freedom, equality, and the fight against all forms of violence. Paola Cortellesi’s video message of greeting was also very much appreciated, focusing on the theme of women’s rights and the importance of celebrating the birth of the Republic and the achievements of millions of Italians who, for the first time in 1946, took part in the elections that sanctioned the rebirth of representative democracy.
Ambassador Cecilia Piccioni focused on these aspects, as well as on Italy’s active commitment to demanding that the Russian authorities respect international law and to working for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, in her brief greeting to the large audience. The power of narrative and images visibly moved the audience, confirming the potential of the engagement strategy towards the most sensitive and fertile segments of Russian society, of the dialogue on rights, gender equality, respect for the individual, diversity and the promotion of virtuous models embodying the values of the Constitution.
The more than one thousand overall participants in the Italian Republic Day celebrations have once again confirmed the great following towards Russian civil society of the Italian system’s action in Russia.
