Tourism firms not feeling touted rise says Federalberghi

(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 20 – Italy’s tourism businesses are not feeling an over 9% year-on-year rise in the number of Italian and foreign tourists in Italy this August reported by the interior ministry, hotel group Federalberghi said.
“The Interior Ministry, processing data on arrivals, notes an increase in tourists, but businesses’ perceptions are different: in most locations, attendance is decreasing or at best stable,” said the hoteliers’ assoication.
“Our feeling is that the trend reported by the Ministry of the Interior is largely attributable to the emergence of the many illegal immigrants and tax evaders who have finally been tracked down with the introduction of the National Identification Code (CIN).” (ANSA).
