Tunisia-Italy: towards strengthening military cooperation

(ANSA) – TUNISI, 12 GIU – Cooperation between the Tunisian and Italian armies and the diversification of its paths were the focus of a meeting between the Tunisian Defence Minister, Khaled Shili, and General Carmine Masiello, Chief of Staff of the Italian Army, at the ministry’s headquarters. This was stated in a note from the Tunisian ministry, in which Shili praised the historical and qualitative ties of friendship between Tunisia and Italy, especially in recent years, reaffirmed during the meeting with his Italian counterpart at the close of the meeting of the Tunisian-Italian Joint Military Commission. Both sides share a united vision for peace in the region and a common will to address the current challenges,’ the note goes on to say. Shili expressed the hope that this cooperation would evolve into a continuous and fruitful partnership between the two friendly countries, particularly in the fields of training, joint exercises, military health, hydrography and development projects. The Tunisian minister then stressed the importance of ensuring the implementation of bilateral cooperation programmes. For his part, Mr. Masiello affirmed Italy’s readiness to continue working to expand their scope in order to improve the operational capabilities of the military institutions of both countries and serve the interests of the two friendly peoples.
The meeting was attended by the Italian Ambassador to Tunisia, Alessandro Prunas, and the Chief of Staff of the Tunisian Army.
