(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 19 – Wine Enthusiast, one of the most authoritative global voices in the wine media, has included Veneto native Tommaso Canella and Friulian winemaker Cristian Specogna in its list of the Future 40 for 2025.
The annual award, which celebrates visionary professionals who are redefining the world of wine, beverages, and hospitality through innovation, connection, and inclusivity, has been made official.
In the history of the award, founded in 2014, a total of five Italians have made it onto the prestigious list (Giulia Cecchi and Francesca Nonino last year; Vittorio Marzotto in 2017).
Now the magazine recognizes Cristian Specogna, third-generation winemaker at the Specogna winery, for “letting his corner of Friuli Colli Orientali DOC sing through his glass.
“And he has made the family estate a place of inclusion and training for people with autism spectrum disorders.” Furthermore, according to Wine Enthusiast, as the third-generation leader of Casa Vinicola Canella, Tommaso has combined entrepreneurial spirit and cultural sensitivity to usher Bellini into a new era.
Originally from San Donà di Piave (Venice), 30-year-old Tommaso Canella has helped lead the family business—recognized as a Historic Brand of National Interest—from the production of pure Prosecco to the premium segment of ready-to-drink products (pre-mixed ready-to-drink products) made with wine and Italian-made PDO ingredients.
Today, for Canella, this category—whose success is still due to the Glera grape, the Prosecco grape—accounts for 75% of total revenue, amounting to approximately €25 million.
This growth has been fueled by the boom in the United States, which has led the company to double its revenue in the last year.
According to data from the UIV Observatory based on IWSR, ready-to-drinks represent the fifth largest beverage among American alcohol consumers in the United States, with a 38% share, more than double that of Italian consumers of the category.
Millennials (aged 28 to 43) dominate the market, accounting for 49% of the total; demand from Gen Z (up to 27) is also above average, at 40%.
The consumer profile of pre-mixed drinks is predominantly female (42% versus 33% of males), who are particularly attracted to products with low or medium alcohol content.
Ready-to-drink beverages are the only major category to have grown in the US market over the last two years (+2%), thanks in part to the high popularity of Hispanics, a rapidly growing population in the country. (ANSA).
