(ANSA) – ROME, FEB 11 – Two Italian fencers aged 20 and 22 will go on trial in June for allegedly raping a female athlete from Uzbekistan in Chianciano Terme in August 2023 during a training summer camp in the Tuscan town.
A preliminary hearing judge on Tuesday granted a request from the defendants’ lawyers for them to have a fast-track trial.
The victim was 17 at the time of the attack.
The judge agreed to requests from the victim’s family and from the Chianciano town council to be admitted as civil plaintiffs in the trial, while rejecting one presented by the Italian Fencing Federation. (ANSA).
