(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 24 – Udinese have said their Nigeria goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been cleared of match-fixing by an Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC) tribunal, but given a two-month ban for having breached the principle of ‘fairness’.
The case regarded a booking 25-year-old was given a yellow card for time-wasting in the second half of his side’s 2-1 win against Lazio in Rome in March 2024.
An acquaintance of the player had placed a bet on him getting booked in the match.
Okoye would have faced a four-year ban if he had been found guilty of match-fixing. (ANSA).
