(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 12 – Ukraine is not an object, Italian bishops chief and papal Ukraine envoy Matteo Zuppi said on Friday’s summit in Alaska between United States President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin where land swaps for peace, rejected by Kyiv, will be on the table from which President Volodymyr Zelensky will be absent.
“Ukraine is not an object but a subject, and we certainly cannot ignore Ukraine in peace talks,” said Zuppi, president of the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI), responding in Castel Volturno (Caserta) to a question from reporters about the August 15 summit in Alaska between Trump and Putin.
Zuppi visited 50 Ukrainian children who had arrived at the Fernandes Center, a Caritas facility that hosts migrants, as part of the national project “It’s More Beautiful Together”—promoted by Caritas Italiana with the support of the Italian Episcopal Conference. (ANSA).
