On the strength of Audrianna Boersen’s win in the coastal women’s solo, a win in the women’s coxed quad, and double-medal performances by Kory Rogers and Chris Bak, USRowing athletes won five total medals (three gold) to top the medals table and claim the team trophy at the 2026 World Rowing Coastal Championships in Qingdao, China.
“Every day, these athletes amaze me,” said Marc Oria, PhD, head coach of the U.S. coastal and Beach Sprint national team. “Winning the team trophy is an incredible achievement, but what makes me most proud is the people behind it and the culture we have built together in the last five years.”
The coastal championships, featuring longer race distances over open water, were held ahead of the Beach Sprint finals, the new Olympic discipline, which take place October 18-21, also in Qingdao.
Rogers and Bak won gold in 26:08, 34 seconds ahead of Ireland, with France a further 22 seconds back in third, in the the coastal men’s double sculls. Rogers teamed up with Sera Busse to take silver in the mixed double sculls, behind Finland. Bak, the most successful athlete in World Rowing Beach Sprint history, and a favorite for LA2028, finished second to France’s Alexis Fortier by less than a second in the men’s solo 4,000-meter open water race.
The U.S. crew of bow Jacqueline Carr, Madeleine Focht, Solveig Imsdahl, stroke Morgan Zahner, and cox Natalie Cleri won the women’s coxed quad in 26:59, 17 seconds ahead of Great Britain.
“Their dedication, resilience, and belief in one another make this team truly special,” said Oria. “I truly believe the best is yet to come.”
