(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 6 – Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara said Tuesday that Italy will call for an EU-wide ban on the use of mobile phones by children at elementary and middle schools.
“On 12 May I will formalise the request for a recommendation to ban the use of mobile phones in schools in EU countries until at least the age of 14,” Valditara told Rai Radio 1.
“The Commission will decide whether or not to take up the proposal, the states will discuss it and the education ministers of the EU countries may approve it.
“The Polish presidency has already supported the initiative and Sweden has already indicated its intention to support it.
“Then the issue of extending the ban to high schools may come up. It is an open debate” . (ANSA).
