The Government of the Virgin Islands has launched a digital Embarkation/Disembarkation (ED) Card system effective January 1, 2025. This initiative is designed to streamline travel processes at entry points across the territory.

The new system enables travelers to complete required forms online prior to their arrival, replacing the traditional paper-based approach. Authorities emphasize that this transition aims to boost operational efficiency and provide a smoother experience for visitors.

Details on the exact time savings compared to paper forms remain unavailable.

The digital ED Card system was initially introduced in a pilot phase on October 1, 2024, allowing voluntary online form submissions. As of January 1, 2025, it is now mandatory for all passengers entering or departing the Virgin Islands to utilize this online platform.

The updated system enhances data collection to strengthen border security and improve tourism planning strategies.

Travelers can access the Online ED Card by visiting bviedcard.gov.vg, where they can conveniently complete the form. The form includes sections for arrival details, personal information, travel itinerary, family details (if applicable), and required declarations. Once submitted, travelers receive a confirmation email with an entry and goods declaration barcode, which must be presented to Immigration and Customs officials.

The ED Card can be completed up to 72 hours before travel or upon arrival in the BVI, provided the traveler has internet access. However, it must be submitted before meeting with an Immigration Officer. While wi-fi may be available in the arrivals area of Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, travelers are encouraged to complete the form before landing to ensure a smoother entry process.

Plans are underway by the Department of Immigration to extend the use of the digital ED Card to private aircraft and charter vessels. This expansion aims to streamline clearance procedures and minimize waiting times for arriving passengers in the immigration hall.
