(ANSA) – HELSINKI, 13 GIU – Today ended the visit to Finland of the 27th Course of the Higher Institute of Interforce Staff (Issmi), led by Air Force Brigadier General Danilo Morando, Director of the Institute, with the participation of 50 officers attending the course.
The mission, which took place from 9 to 13 June, represented an important opportunity to learn more about the Finnish model of national security and resilience, through meetings and visits to key institutions and bodies operating in the areas of countering hybrid threats, border defence and critical infrastructure protection. The initiative was part of the international activities of the ISSMI’s training programme.
The visit opened on the evening of 9 June with a reception hosted at the historic Residence by the Italian Ambassador to Finland, Nicola Todaro Marescotti. Assisted by the Military Attaché, Col. Luccetti, the Ambassador welcomed the delegation, offering an informal discussion with representatives of the Finnish institutional and academic world, in the presence of Major General Sami Nurmi, Deputy Chief of Staff (Strategy) of the Finnish Defence.
The programme of the visit to Helsinki continued with briefing sessions at the Centre of Excellence for Hybrid Security (Hybrid CoE) and visits to the Finnish Border Guard Command, Fingrid (national grid operator), the National Library, the Finnish National Defence University (FNDU) and the National Emergency Supply Agency (NESA).
The meetings developed in an interactive manner and were characterised by numerous speeches and in-depth discussions at the instigation of the General Staff Officers of the four Armed Forces, who were able to gain a comparative and up-to-date view of the main security strategies adopted by Finland against the backdrop of the complex situation in the Baltic and Nordic-Arctic area.
