A massive youth-led Gen-Z protest has been ongoing in Nepal, erupting after the government banned 26 social media apps for failing to register under the new regulations. This move was perceived as a way among youth to control their voices, and the anger even turned furious over the long-standing issues of unemployment, poor governance, lack of accountability from the authorities, and entrenched political elites.

On top of it, reports claimed that over 19 people were killed in this protest, which even fueled the fire around. Amidst this, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli resigned from his position, and Nepal is now seeking a new leader to handle the crisis. After Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli’s resignation, two names came forward, who could take the seat of being the next PM of Nepal: former Chief Justice, Sushila Karik and Kathmandu’s mayor, Balendra Balen Shah. According to a report by Returns, the Supreme Court Bar Association stated that the protest movement had proposed Sushila Karik to serve as the country’s interim prime minister.
