Basilicata brings mechatronics to Italy Pavilion

(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 25 – Basilicata has opened its week as the protagonist of initiatives held at the Italy Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka with an event on mechatronics and sustainable mobility called ‘Flying car, cargo drone, environmental monitoring: new ways to improve people’s lives’.
The workshop aimed to explore the potential of mechatronics in the reconversion of industrial areas close to rural zones, with a focus on the automotive sector, sustainable railways and smart mobility.
The event enabled the dialogue between Italian and Japanese experts, the sector’s big players and institutions, to identify industrial development strategies and technological cooperation.
“In Basilicata, over the past few years, we have built a great heritage of know-how which the sector’s companies have enhanced”, said the president of the region’s associations of companies, universities and research centres Cluster Lucano Automotive, Antonio Braia.
“The workshop – added the president of the Aerospace Cluster, Antonio Colangelo – represents only a tassel of the precious collaboration which we intend to promote in the drone sector which has all the potential to become increasingly strategic for the economy” of Basilicata.
Finally, the director general of the Production Department of the Basilicata Region, Giuseppina Lo Vecchio, explained that the development of drone technology represents a very important sector for Basilicata on which the Region intends to invest, starting with the creation of a Drone Centre of Excellence which has been planned as part of Total’s non-oil investments.
