Scrambled eggs require gentle, precise heat and the ability to reach into the edges of the pan, a good test of both temperature control and shape. Porridge is notoriously difficult to clean, making it a reliable indicator of how well the non-stick surface performs under everyday conditions.</li><li><strong>Caramelised onions (medium pan):</strong> Cooking onions gently over a long period revealed how evenly each pan distributed heat at lower temperatures and how well it responded when the temperature was adjusted. However, if you’re specifically looking for a non-induction set or simply have no need for it, this one might be ideal.</p><p>With 11 pieces, the set covers all bases for stovetop cooking from boiling to braising, sautéing and steaming. The pans are oven-safe but limited to a maximum temperature of 175C for no more than 20 minutes. We found the pans light but sturdy, perfect for anyone struggling to lift heavy items.</p><p>They have excellent conductivity thanks to the aluminium core and a sensational non-stick ceramic coating free of PTFE, PFOA and PFAS.</p><p>The test results were excellent and the only thing we were less than happy with was that the American pancakes were quite dark each time. Nevertheless, for the quality and functionality, this comprehensive set is excellent for the price.</p>

<p>The thick, solid base makes them suitable for all cooking surfaces, including induction, and I was impressed by their ability to heat super-fast and respond instantly to lowering the heat. This was essential when caramelising the onions, which came out a delicious, even golden brown.</p><p>Likewise, when cooking the porridge, the heat had to be lowered once the porridge thickened and the response was immediate.</p><p>The handle was comfortable to hold and never became hot while using on induction, though this may not be the case if the pans are used on a high gas flame, and they’ll most certainly get hot when used in the oven. They’re extremely handsome, with a shiny, heavy-gauge stainless steel exterior, and signature laser-etched hexagon design on the inside.</p><p>Each hexagon is a hybrid of stainless-steel ridges and non-stick valleys, giving superb searing potential coupled with total non-stick on the bottom and partly up the sides. Above this, the hybrid continues with a zigzag pattern and lines up to the rim.</p><p>The result of all this patterning is that the HexClad pans are incredibly robust, and claimed to withstand all metal utensils, including spatulas, whisks and even electric mixers.</p><p>Despite the hefty robustness of these pans, they do need a little TLC with seasoning before use, much like a cast iron pan, and this does need to be repeated from time to time. Also, unlike some non-stick, using a little oil when cooking is recommended as you’re cooking on steel and non-stick.</p><p>On the test, the pans were sublime. The 1.5 litres of water boiled in three minutes and five seconds and stopped dead when I switched off the heat. The gentle simmering of the onions was on the lowest heat.</p><p>It produced soft caramelisation in 20 minutes instead of the expected 40, and the porridge similarly cooked super-fast, with zero sticking. Cleaning was a doddle and despite these being totally dishwasher-safe, they only needed a quick rinse.</p><p>The pans may be expensive, but with just a little TLC, they will pay back in bucketloads with their ease of use, fast, quality cooking, and stunning appearance. You will not want to put them back in the cupboard. The pans are quick to heat up and retain their heat well, so can be slower to cool down. The ceramic coating interior (made without PTFE, PFOA, PFAS, lead and cadmium) on all the pans is impressively non-stick – my omelettes slid easily from the frying pan and porridge was easy to wipe clean from the saucepan. It is recommended to stick to low or medium heat while using these pans, as most users are tempted to slip to high heat at times for ease, which may affect longevity and the appearance of the pan’s base. Each pan (with the exception of the casserole pan) has a fold-in handle that reduces its footprint in storage. Even with the handles folding inwards, they can be stacked, too.</p><p>It’s a large set, comprising a range of saucepans, frying pans and a casserole dish, as well as three felt pan protectors. All the pans are robust and nicely balanced, and come with tempered glass lids that fit well.</p><p>The heat distribution was relatively even but with some hotter spots in the centre. What’s more, the felt pan protectors mean they won’t damage each other when stored this way.</p><p>The PFAS-free non-stick coating is effective – nothing stuck to the pans during testing and they distributed heat evenly with no obvious hot spots.</p><p>It takes a few goes to get used to taking the handles on and off, but it soon becomes second nature – though having only two handles is a compromise that won’t suit everyone. Plus, you’ll need to avoid getting the handles too dirty, as they can’t be submerged in water.</p><p>The pans are oven-safe (without the handles) and the included storage lids mean you can pop them in the fridge, too, offering plenty of functionality. Cleaning is a doddle as they can go in the dishwasher, but hand-washing is recommended.</p>

There’s no doubting its quality – each pan boasts a superior build with silicone handles. Included in the set is a smaller 16cm pan with a long handle, plus three stock pots (16cm, 20cm, 24cm) and a 20cm stew pot, suitable for everything from everyday cooking to weekend batch efforts. All are dishwasher-safe and metal-utensil-friendly.</p><p>The set includes four glass lids fitted with silicone rims. The 19cm pan and 19cm pot can share the same lid, which is a nice touch. The smallest pan with the longer handle was my favourite, mostly because its handle stayed cool throughout. The other pans have shorter double handles which do get warm while cooking, though you can still pick them up without protection. The lid handles are metal though, and they get extremely hot, which makes the handy built-in strainer design frustratingly impractical. These pans also benefit from pouring spouts and internal measurements, which are useful practical details in everyday use.</p><p>These pans heat impressively fast and react quickly to temperature changes. I cooked porridge, fried eggs and pancakes without any sticking, which is a good sign at this price. The largest pot is ideal for batch cooking, though storage isn’t straightforward (some pans stack but the lids are bulky) so make sure you have the cupboard space. They’re oven-safe to 180°C and backed by a lifetime warranty, though you’d expect nothing less at this price.</p>

There are four colours to choose from (blue salt, char, cream and terracotta), and the stylish gold handles and knobs on the lids add to the premium feel.</p><p>Most of the pans are very weighty and relatively well balanced, though the larger ones could do with an additional handle to aid with lifting and cleaning. The 3.8L sauté pan does come with an extra handle, but in test this was too hot to touch so wasn’t particularly useful.</p><p>If buying this set, it’s worth checking the dimensions of your hob rings, too, particularly if cooking with induction or electric. I found most of the pans were too big for our kitchen’s standard-sized hob rings, so they took much longer to heat up (even when on the highest heat).</p><p>Once they’d finally hit temperature, though, I thought the cooking results were good – both the pancakes and omelettes were evenly browned, slipping from pan to plate with ease, and the diced onions caramelised nicely without burning. If you’re starting out, a three-pot set will give you everything you need to cook most meals.
