Over 2,000 entries from 130 clubs traveled to St. Catharines, Ontario to race the 142nd Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. Strong storms brought down power lines and temporarily blocked access to the island that hosts summer’s great club regatta.
Home club St. Catharines RC entered a whopping 92 crews, barely outdoing Calgary RC’s 85 entries and Ottawa’s 81 entires. Penn AC brought the biggest entry from the U.S., with 72.
California Rowing Club won the Hanlan Memorial Challenge Trophy for men’s senior eights in 5:29.8, ahead of the University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria, who finished in 5:34.1 and 5:34.7, respectively.
Brock RC won the Henley Island Helpers Presidents Cup for senior women’s eights in 6:15.8. Argentina was second in 6:28.35, with Calgary RC third in 6:29.8.
Cambridge Boat Club’s women’s under-19 eight won at Canadian Henley for the fifth year in a row, going undefeated through their heat, semifinal, and final to cop the Harris/Fisher Trophy.
