(ANSA) – ROME, SEP 12 – Relations with Parliament Minister Luca Ciriani said Friday that the murder of American Conservative activist and Donald Trump-supporter Charlie Kirk has shown there is a climate of hate on the Left of Italy’s political spectrum.
“In the US a 31-year-old conservative influencer is killed and some intellectuals basically say on TV that he deserved it,” Ciriani told an event organized by his and Premier Giorgia Meloni’s left-wing Brothers of Italy (FdI) party in Capaccio-Paestum, near Salerno “These are the same arguments that we used to hear in the days of (the 1975 murder of right-wing militant) Sergio Ramelli and the Red Brigades and phrases like ‘they are comrades who are making mistakes.’ “This is the climate that is being created in this country. Just because this government works.
“We have discovered democratic hatred, democratic civilians who say ‘we must remain human’ and then do not say a word of human compassion toward a man whose only wrongdoing was not thinking like them.” The comments echoed those made by Meloni on Thursday in response to a post by some left-wing student groups with a photo of Kirk upside down next to the message “-1” (one down).
By hanging Kirk upside down in the post, its creators linked his murder to the killing of Benito Mussolini, whose body was hung upside down in Milan’s Piazzale Loreto after his death.
“These are the so-called anti-fascists,” Meloni said in response.
“This is the climate now, even in Italy.
“No one will say anything (about it), so I will. We won’t be intimidated.” One of the bullets found in the gun used to kill Kirk reportedly had “Bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao” engraved on it.
The folk song ‘Bella Ciao’ is associated with the Partisans of the Italian resistance and the Left in general. (ANSA).
