The idea of Georgie and Rueben going to war with Fred Fagenbacher is a winner.
But the way they went about it was ridiculous.
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 4 chose to deal with the problem in the most ridiculous manner possible, and it probably put a huge crack in the foundation of Georgie’s marriage for no good reason.
Just Because Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Is A Comedy Doesn’t Mean Anything Goes
Situations can and should be played for laughs, but they should make sense for the characters.
I don’t hate physical comedy or people doing things that are completely irrational. I’m a huge I Love Lucy fan, after all.
But no matter how crazy a situation Lucy and Ethel got into, it followed a particular type of logic that Georgie and Rueben’s misadventure here didn’t.
I was with the guys until they decided the solution to their problems was to put bleach in all of Fred’s tow trucks.
Just… why? What good did it do?
Fred would get them fixed, and they’d be back to him outcompeting them.
Plus, Georgie doesn’t have the manpower to handle all of Fred’s business, as the emergency call he got while already on a tow proved.
Georgie & Rueben’s Misbehavior Was Mostly Low Stakes
It shouldn’t have been.
The guys were sneaking into Fred’s yard in the middle of the night to sabotage his trucks.
The only things that happened were that Rueben took a second to climb the fence on the way in and had to outrun a barking dog on the way out.
I’m not saying this should have ended with them getting arrested — that whole Connie subplot on Young Sheldon Season 7 was bad enough.
But the only real consequences the guys got came the next day when Fred came to their shop, and that was way too late.
Plus, The Physical Comedy Wasn’t All That Funny
If there weren’t real stakes, there should have at least been some hilarious physical comedy.
Again, I Love Lucy fan here, and nothing compares to that, but we needed something more than Reuben trying to climb a fence while a dog grabbed at his pants leg.
I don’t know what, exactly, but something more exaggerated. If we had to sit through this nonsense, we at least deserved something that got us doubled over laughing.

This Problem Might Be The Thread That Unravels Georgie and Mandy’s Marriage
I’m annoyed because this dumb secret is not a good reason for Georgie and Mandy to have serious problems.
Of course, those problems were already there since Mandy thought Georgie was having an affair, but what was she supposed to think when he was lying and being secretive, plus taking a billion showers a day?
Not to mention that he didn’t think he could trust her to come up with a solution to the tire shop’s money problems, even before sneaking into Fred’s yard became a thing.
Hopefully, none of this is irreversible.
We know the marriage will eventually fall apart, but there’s no reason for it to happen yet, and Georgie seemed to be having second thoughts after his conversation with Jim.
That conversation was my favorite part of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 4.
It had the heart that made me fall hard for this show.
It wasn’t silly for the sake of being silly. It wasn’t exaggerated, illogical nonsense.It was just two guys bonding over tire shop troubles and Jim trying to help Georgie decide what to do. Of course, I’m not sure I liked most of Jim’s advice.
He’d done similar things with Audrey, but that didn’t mean keeping secrets was the right thing to do, especially if it was destroying trust with Mandy.
Jim: You’re a good man.
Georgie: I don’t feel like a good man.
Jim: That’s cause you’re a good man.
I was hoping that Jim’s final words, which I loved, would convince Georgie to reverse course before he did any more damage, but so far, no such luck.
Despite My Complaints, There Were Some Genuinely Funny Moments
Mandy and Georgie’s whole argument about whether he becomes more country when he’s lying was a hilarious running joke throughout the episode, and I also liked the idea of Reuben coming to dinner.
Audrey treated him more like family than she did Georgie, and Connor’s offering to give up his spot standing at the counter and sit at the table to accommodate the guest was the kind of ridiculous humor that was actually funny.
I also liked Georgie’s imitation of the balloon mascot dancing. But did they really not have those in the 1990s?
They’re so ubiquitous now that it’s weird to think of them being a radical or bizarre addition to the tire shop.
