Ghio (FRA) and Spanu (ITA) crowned Wingfoil Racing Winners in Silvaplana | Ensis ENGADINWING 2025 – SUI
At day 5 of the Ensis ENGADINWIND WingFoil Racing World Cup, the event’s top riders arrived at Silvaplana lake hungry for glory in the Medal Series. The wind, however, had different ideas. All week you could have set your watch on the arrival of the Maloja wind – the local thermal breeze that kicks-in at lunchtime – but not today. The men’s Golden Ticket race was the only casualty of the weather. As tenth-placed finisher in qualifying, Gregorio Pugliese was awarded the last spot in the Medal Series.
In the men’s competition, France’s Mathis Ghio defended his title in a thrilling final. Despite a strong start from Poland’s Kamil Manowiecki and pressure from New Zealand’s Sean Herbert—who had previously beaten Ghio by mere centimetres—the reigning champion held his lead and crossed the finish line first, edging closer to his fourth World Cup Series title.
In the women’s competition, Czech rider Kristyna Chalupnikova upset expectations by winning the first race of the final. But top qualifier Maddalena Spanu from Italy responded like a true champion, dominating Race 2 to secure the event win and her third consecutive Silvaplana title.
