Great Britain have announced a Men’s Eight and a Women’s Quad to race the SH Netz Cup from 4-6 September. This year, the event serves as an opportunity for the development team to get stuck into one of the most iconic races in the sport.
In the Eights, Great Britain will line up against Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, and Ukraine, while the Women’s Quadruple Scull are set to race the Netherlands and Germany.
Racing kicks off on Friday in Rendsburg in the north of Germany with a 500m ergo race. Saturday will see short, sharp 300m racing before crews take on the infamous 12.7km race on Sunday.
This is the second year of the Women’s Quadruple Sculls racing, while the Men’s Eight will race for the 26th time. Last year, Great Britain were third in both boat classes. The Brits have won the Netz Cup on three previous occasions, most recently in 2023.
In the Women’s Quad, Poppy Baker and Heloise Wormleighton return from last year’s crew that placed third. They’re joined by Vwairé Obukohwo, who made her senior debut in 2024 and races internationally for the first time this season. Completing the crew is Lily Abbot, the University of California, Berkeley graduate who has previously won two bronze medals at the U23 European and World Rowing Championships.
Two of the crew that won the Ladies’ Challenge Plate will travel to Germany to race this weekend in the Men’s Eight. Levin Graf will stroke the crew on his second trip to the Kiel Canal, while Ben Brockway will team up with former Newcastle University Boat Club teammates Gwilym Johnson and Imogen Woodcock, who are fresh from winning silver in the Men’s Eight at the FISU World University Rowing Championships 2026.
Toby Lassen brings a wealth of experience to the bow seat, having raced the SH Netz Cup on two previous occasions. Leander Club’s Jack Prior and Tom Ballinger slot in ahead of Lassen, and both bring Henley-winning experience. Rounding out the crew is Syracuse University alumnus Ben Campbell-Reide, who holds the programme’s 2000m ergo record, and Thames Challenge Cup winner with London Rowing Club, Calum Jenkins, who’s also captained England at the Home International Regatta.
