GWA Wingfoil Surf-Freestyle World Champion | GWA Wingfoil World Cup Gran Canaria
The Gran Canaria GWA Wingfoil World Cup 2026 in El Burrero hosted the penultimate Surf-Freestyle event of the season, with 27 men and 18 women competing in strong winds and challenging conditions. With the World Championship titles still undecided, the level of riding was exceptionally high throughout the event
In the men’s competition, spectacular tricks such as double backflips and double front flips highlighted the quarter-finals and semi-finals. Chris MacDonald (USA) delivered a consistently outstanding performance, securing victory ahead of Benjamin Castenskiold (DEN), while Axel Gerard (FRA) finished third and Tomas Acherer (AUT) fourth. The men’s world title will now be decided at the final event in Fuerteventura.
In the women’s competition, Viola Lippitsch (AUT) impressed from the opening rounds and maintained her form through to the final. She claimed her first-ever GWA Tour victory, ahead of Nia Suardiaz (ESP), while Sofia Ginzinger (ESP) completed the podium. Suardiaz still remains in contention for the overall World Title, which will also be decided in Fuerteventura.
