A three-year study by Metropolis Healthcare reveals that 28.4 per cent of nearly 20,000 children screened for hemoglobinopathies tested positive, with beta-thalassemia trait and sickle cell disease being most common. The advanced molecular tools like Next-generation sequencing (NGS) can detect genetic mutations missed by conventional tests, enabling early diagnosis, carrier detection, and personalized disease management.
