This past weekend, Matt Damon broke his personal record as a leading man when The Odyssey overtook The Martian at the worldwide box office. Directed by Ridley Scott, The Martian grossed around $630 million worldwide in 2015 and received several Oscar nominations. Damon has appeared in more successful movies — two of them, Interstellar and Oppenheimer — were directed by Christopher Nolan, but they didn’t feature him in a leading role. Now, he plays Odysseus in Nolan’s The Odyssey, which is on track to become the filmmaker’s biggest-ever hit with more than $1 billion worldwide. When the dust settles, it’ll probably gross twice as much as The Martian, and four times as much as another sci-fi movie that Damon headlined in 2013.
