MedFil Festival in Rabat, screenings and masterclasses

(ANSA) – ROMA, 24 SET – On the occasion of the Bicentennial of Italy-Morocco diplomatic relations (1825 – 2025), the MedFilm Festival in its fourth edition lands in Rabat. The international festival dedicated to Mediterranean cinema stops in the city on Oct. 2 and 3, with a program that brings films, guests, presentations and master classes to the Moroccan capital, along with the involvement of local production and artistic realities. Organized by the Embassy of Italy in Morocco and the Italian Institute of Culture in Rabat, in collaboration with the Methexis Onlus Association, and with Fondation Hiba, Cinéma Renaissance and Institut Supérieur des Métiers de l’Audiovisuel et du Cinéma de Rabat (ISMAC), the event in the wake of the Mattei Plan, promotes cultural and commercial dialogue between Italy and Morocco through cinema and audiovisuals, reaffirming the bond of geographical and cultural proximity between the two countries.
The festival opens with an evening event at the Cinéma Renaissance in Rabat. The Italian film chosen for the overture is Testa o croce? by Alessio Rigo de Righi and Matteo Zoppis, presented here as a world premiere not only for Morocco but for the entire Mena area. After being in competition at Cannes in the Un Certain Regard section, at Locarno in the Piazza Grande and in Melbourne in the Europe & UK section, the film will make its African and Middle Eastern premiere at MedFilm au Maroc in conjunction with its Italian theatrical release on October 2, distributed by 01 Distribution. Italy’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, Pasquale Salzano said, “MedFilm in Morocco is inserted this year in a context of particular significance, that of two hundred years of relations between Italy and Morocco. It is an opportunity to honor a solid diplomatic history and at the same time to celebrate a living friendship, which finds in cinema and in the training of young people a privileged ground for dialogue and creativity. In the sign of the Mediterranean, a sea that unites, we look together at a shared future.” Also planned as part of the festival are two masteclasses on directing and screenwriting and editing, given by Edgardo Pistone, a Neapolitan director born in 1990, and Francesco Di Stefano an editor for directors such as Paolo Sorrentino and Gabriele Mainetti.
