Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, revealed on Friday that Pune Airport’s new terminal will introduce the DigiYatra service starting February 8, 2025. This advancement is set to revolutionize the passenger journey by enabling a contactless, fully digital experience, eliminating the need for physical documents and ensuring a smoother, more efficient airport process.
The newly constructed terminal at Pune Airport, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2024, spans an impressive 22,000 square meters and is designed to accommodate up to 7 million passengers annually. The rollout of the DigiYatra service at this terminal is set to enhance operational efficiency, offering travelers a smoother and more convenient journey.
At the previous terminal, DigiYatra adoption fluctuated, with 1.73 lakh passengers utilizing the service in January 2024, before dropping to 1.36 lakh in May 2024. However, with the state-of-the-art terminal now in place and an upgraded digital experience, passenger engagement with the service is expected to rise significantly.
Pune Airport also reached a major milestone in 2024, surpassing the 1 crore passenger mark. This reflects an 8% increase in traffic compared to 2023, with December 2024 recording the highest-ever passenger volume at the airport.
With the integration of DigiYatra and the expanded terminal, Pune Airport is poised to redefine travel convenience, ensuring a seamless and technologically advanced experience for passengers.
