Sylvester Stallone has played countless iconic roles, but his turn as Dwight “The General” Manfredi on Tulsa King has become something special.
The Paramount+ series has already been renewed for a fourth season ahead of its Season 3 premiere, and Stallone couldn’t be prouder of the unlikely franchise he and Taylor Sheridan have built.
“I think it’s remarkable because it came out of nowhere,” Stallone shared. “Taylor and I barely knew each other beyond riding horses, and then suddenly we’re building this world together. A lot can go wrong with television, but so far, it’s been pretty miraculous.”
Dwight Under Pressure
As Tulsa King Season 3 opens, Dwight faces new challenges on multiple fronts. Federal Agent Musso (Kevin Pollak) has him under his thumb after collecting enough evidence to bring down Dwight and his entire crew.
“It makes him feel very angry because he knows if I don’t do what they say, everyone in my new family is going down,” Stallone explained.
And Musso isn’t his only problem.
“I have the East Coast coming after me — the real boss of bosses — and then Robert Patrick’s character in Tulsa, who seems like a charming old man but is terrifying, trust me.” With threats coming from all directions, Dwight is forced to navigate dangerous waters while trying to keep his empire intact.
A Different Kind of Gangster
Stallone says what sets Dwight apart from other mob figures is his approach to power.
“The other kind of gangster has been done really well — severe, secretive, suspicious, vindictive. Dwight’s the opposite. He realizes he can get more out of people by buying them a drink, giving them clothes, making them part of his family. Everybody earns.”
That philosophy is tied to Dwight’s personal code.
“It isn’t ‘to thine own self be true,’” Stallone said with a grin. “It’s about strength in numbers. And always be prepared. That’s my favorite Boy Scout motto — if you’re prepared, you’re never out of position.”
Stallone even teased that the end of this season will shock viewers. “You’re going to think Stallone has lost his mind. I wrote this scene that really cracks the barrier of beyond the pale.”
Balancing Humor and Heart
While mob stories often rely on violence or dark humor, Tulsa King brings a lighter touch.
“Other shows have a kind of gothic humor — stabbing a guy 30 times and calling it funny. Ours is different. Dwight is joking, mocking, having fun. It’s funny because of his personality, not because of the brutality.”
That balance makes the show feel distinct within the genre. Fans can expect both grit and laughter as Dwight tries to keep his crew — and his conscience — intact.
Romance and Strong Women
One of Dwight’s most complicated relationships this season is with Margaret, played by Dana Delaney.
“She’s tough — gangster tough,” Stallone admitted. “She knows exactly what I do, and she even asked me, ‘What’s it like to kill somebody?’ That’s not exactly romantic.”
Stallone teased that deciding whether to marry Margaret will be a major Season 4 plot point. “She’s hard to replace. I’ve got to take it to the next step.”
Beyond Margaret, Stallone praised the show’s female characters. His sister Joanne (Annabella Sciorra) proves tougher than ever, while Grace (McKenna Quigley Harrington), once a shy shop worker, becomes both his best shot and a budding businesswoman.
“We have strong women in the show,” Stallone emphasized, hinting at even more growth to come.
Wrapping It Up
With its mix of danger, humor, romance, and unexpected character growth, Tulsa King continues to cement itself as one of Paramount+‘s most compelling dramas.
Stallone’s enthusiasm is clear, and his promise of jaw-dropping moments ahead makes Season 3 a must-watch.
“The ending of this season, you are not going to believe,” Stallone said. And when The General himself tells you that, you know it’s time to tune in.
