The Ötztaler Cycle Marathon 2025
The Ötztaler Cycle Marathon 2025 (AUT) is the most challenging cycling marathon in the Alps, offering a captivating mix of valley and high alpine terrain that contributes to a unique atmosphere. The race started with nice temperatures and blue skies, providing perfect conditions for the cyclists with some rain in the afternoon.
The course covered 227 kilometers from Sölden over four alpine passes (Kühtaisattel, Brenner, Jaufenpass and Timmelsjoch) into South Tyrol and back. Riders conquered an incredible 5.500 meters of elevation gain. In total 4.281 participants from 40 nations stared into the race and who willingly toke on this enormous physical and mental challenge. It is an amateur athlete’s dream to conquer this course and hold a finisher’s jersey in their hands.

In the men’s race, the decisive moment once again came on the legendary Timmelsjoch climb. Local hero Daniel Federspiel from Tyrol launched a decisive attack from the chase group, putting in an incredible effort to seize the lead before even reaching the summit. He powered on to Sölden, crossing the finish line in a stunning time of 6:48:55.8.
Behind him, the battle for second and third place ignited on the final descent. It all came down to a sprint finish, where Tyrolean rider Jonas Holzknecht edged out his rivals with a time of 6:52:26.4 to claim the runner-up spot. Switzerland’s Matthias Reutimann followed closely in third, while Germany’s Andreas Isele was forced to settle for the tough luck of fourth place.
In the women’s category, it was German cyclist Janine Meyer who claimed victory. After dominating the race last year, she does the same this year, holding the lead throughout and riding up front with the top men. She crosses the finish line with an impressive time of 7:22:32.4, beating her own time from last year and setting a new record for the fastest woman by 3 minute and 54 seconds. German Eva Schrien came in second, 17 minutes and 14 seconds behind the winner. Tyrolean Belinda Holzer completes the women’s podium in third place.
