We already have two dogs and two cats at home, and my poor husband doesn’t want any more. But I follow a lot of rescues on social media, and I can’t help but feel heartbroken for the amazing dogs they feature who are running out of time in our overcrowded shelters.

That led us to temporary fostering. We take in dogs who have been adopted at the last minute but need somewhere safe to stay while they wait for transportation to their new, out-of-state homes. Both dogs we have fostered so far were house trained, leash trained, and so worth saving.
The network of shelters, fosters, and rescuers has created wonderful and easy ways for everyday people like me to help save dogs. Many rescues provide everything needed to care for your temporary furry buddy, from food and leashes to beds and other supplies.

I didn’t know about the need for emergency or temporary fostering before I started following my local rescues, but it turns out it is a perfect fit for our family.
Today, I dropped Redfield off so he could hop on his transport and head to his new home in Indiana. We will miss his sweet face, but we are so excited for him and so happy to have been part of his rescue story.
