(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 22 – Donald Trump has been a brutal wake-up call and the EU must learn to get along with itself and the US president, former Italian premier and ex European Central Bank president Mario Draghi said in a keynote speech to the annual Rimini Meeting of the influential Catholic activist group Comunione e Liberazione (CL) on its opening day Friday.
“The second” push for his report on EU competitiveness “was a much more brutal wake-up call, the one Trump gave us. The US elections changed everything,” Draghi said, recalling that “at the beginning of September 2023, I spoke, but no one had the feeling that things weren’t going well.
“There was a general sense of calm, both in industry, in politics, and even in the Brussels bureaucratic services.” And “faced with what’s happening, it comes to mind that perhaps the first thing to do is let’s all pull together,” European states must “learn to get along.” (ANSA).
