Warm sunshine is set to return to parts of the UK in just a few days after a cold spell.
Temperatures will rise above average for mid-September, reaching as high as 25C in parts of England and Wales.
High pressure is predicted to largely block wind and rain from Atlantic weather systems.
Rain is expected in northwest Scotland, but drier weather elsewhere is predicted.
Lighter winds and higher daytime temperatures are expected for most of Britain.
Strong south-westerly winds are due to bring cloud and rain showers across the west throughout today.
Conditions will settle down over the weekend.
Sunshine and blustery showers will cover the northern half of the UK.
Scotland is forecast to receive the most rain.
The South will feel muggy, with chances of light rain and cloud, before sunny spells will take over on Sunday.
The region is expected to be around 22C.
West to north-west winds will still be strong in Scotland.

Next week will be drier, with lighter winds and sunshine.
This is expected to last through to Friday.
The forecasts follow rain and strong winds which returned to most parts of the UK after a string of summer heatwaves.
Despite this, three-quarters of England remain in drought conditions even after the recent downpours.
The Environment Agency has now warned hosepipe bans could be in place until next year.
Drought conditions can only end when rivers, groundwaters and reservoirs return to normal levels – which has not yet happened.
“The drought situation remains very serious, and we cannot underestimate the challenge ahead over the coming months,” Environment Agency Chief Executive Philip Duffy said during the latest meeting of the National Drought Group.
He added: “A few weeks of rain cannot reverse the deficit we face from the very dry spring and summer. We still need everyone else to use a little less water to speed up the drought recovery.”
