(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 5 – Health Minister Orazio Schillaci said Tuesday that there was no need for alarm about a recent series of deaths in Lazio and Campania caused by West Nile Virus, saying the figures were in line with those registered in previous years.
“The situation is under control. It is constantly monitored and in line with previous years,” Schillaci told the Senate Social Affairs Committee.
“I do not remember media alarms in 2018 and 2022 about the West Nile Virus despite the fact that there were more cases and deaths in those years”.
So far this year, the virus has claimed 13 lives in Italy, most in the provinces of Caserta in Campania and Latina in Lazio.
