This collection is slow music for the Anthropocene, four suites of long-form works recorded over 2023.
Each of the 16 tracks here unfolds over its 10+ minute runtime: different melodies and textures emerge, intersect with one another, build, and dissolve over minutes. It’s over 3 hours of glacial ambient music.
As always, I’m deeply inspired by the natural world, and time spent in the slowness of the Canadian and Arctic winter, when much of this album was recorded.
There’s only one instrument on this record—the hugely inspiring Moog One synthesizer—which was multi-tracked onto very long 1/4″ analog tape loops on my vintage Fostex 8-track, one note/chord at a time, with all the beautiful imperfections of physical music made by a human: tape splices fail, faders pop, motors drift.
